V/A - Molde Punx Go Marching Out 2LP 2020

Fantastic re-release of this awesome tape which was originally released on Anathema Records in 1983 and how many of these were distributed is not ascertainable. It was time for a re-issue, and it's lovingly made by Cease Fire! in various limited versions. This double album features early Eighties bands from the small Norwegian town of Molde and some made it onto vinyl, others didn't even exist for four or five years. You can imagine what time and work such a project entails, and it was worth all the effort: the rough sound, the hearty music and the extensive booklet go hand in hand and make this a historical audio document of Norwegian subculture. Probably sold out long ago, but if you have the opportunity to get in touch with a copy, buy it... it's worth every penny! Strong Release!

DEFORMED - Gas Atttack! Without Warning! [Tape] 1982

Now an interesting trio from Århus with a short lifespan, just over a year 1981-2, and Deformed was the baby baptized. They only played a handful of gigs in Århus & Copenhagen. The line-up consisted of Kim (vocals/bass), Bjørn (guitars), Johnny (drums). This tape is their only release and Gas Attack! comes out twice, the second edition has four more songs than this version, why? I don't know and it doesn't matter either; fact is, the three play in a refreshing league of melodic songs that almost lead to the Post-Punk fraction, but also contain short numbers and the whole thing is very varied and surprisingly homogeneous. In 2022 a Compilation (...What Never Was...) was released through No Århus Records that deserves a mention and I need to hear this record, also important to say that drummer Johnny is none other than Johnny Concrete who whipped up a fabulous EP (Come With & I must post this goodie soon) in 1984 and is the only permanent member of Dream Police since the beginning. You'll see, in Deformed is enough potential and definitely not a fart in the Danish subculture and I'm sure their music will turn you on as much as me.

V/A - BG Hronika Vol.2 [Tape] 1990

I haven't forgotten, like so many other things, today part two of the very good BG Hronika tape series on U.P.C.. And again interesting bands, this time twelve, from former Yugoslavia. And as on Volume 1, there are rather unknown combos that conjure up decent music, some made it to vinyl releases, others unfortunately only on tape compis like this. Anyone who already likes the first effort and is friendly with Punk from the Balkans will definitely have fun here, varied and edgy, this small, probably only distributed locally, gives us another insight into the very active and innovative scene of this former socialist country, and some records by well-known bands are absolute classics today. The sound quality is acceptable and it goes without saying that I'll be adding part three in a few months. So far so good, later Bundesliga, important match in Berlin today.

ŽENEVSKI DEKRET - Mostar Demo 1986

I received an email a while back with the latest record (Alkohol) and I really don't know from whom and since it didn't end up in the spam folder I should know the sender. But I have no idea who sent it to me. Anyway, I listened to the single and I have to say: cool dirty stuff! So I researched the net and came across to their unassuming little blog and got more material. And here's a little bit of it with info out of their mouths: "Punk behind the iron curtain and an old jewel: Ženevski Dekret (Geneve Decree) started back 1984 in Mostar (ex-Yugoslavia, now Bosnia/Herzegovina) and the first line-up consisted of Habi (vocals/drums), Kokich (bass), Golub (guitars). Back in the day things were hard despite the fact Yugoslavia was "something better that the other countries of existing socialism" in matters of freedom of speech so their first demo Mostar came out three years later in 1986 and was followed by Neću Da Budem Dio Jebene Mase (Don't Wanna Be A Part Of Fucking Mass) in 1988, a three track EP which was released in 2007 by Ne! Records/Mama Records and all three goodies are taken from the Vogue studio session from 1988 and the record then came out in an edition of 500 copies. A pocket sized booklet written by Habi with a little bio and lyrics is included and music wise this is rough, angry and primitive Hardcore much more brutal than their first demo which has melodic moments." Until 2005 they released one CD, one tape & two singles, there were several line-up changes and they are also strongly represented on Compilations. The recordings are unpolished and impressively document the attitude towards life in the mid Eighties in the heart of ex-Yugoslavia.

V/A - BG Hronika Vol.1 [Tape] 1990

Today a compilation from U.P.C. which features mainly unknown bands from the former Yugoslavia and this is the first volume of three. Focus is on decent Hardcore & Punk and the quality is acceptable. Posted by me many many years ago when I was still a comrade-in-arms at DU and started my blogger life. Well, and now this grandiose cassette is being revived and the second part will of course follow shortly. There are very less of the combos on vinyl, which may be due to the few labels in the country and the short lifespan of the bands, as it is certainly not easy to establish oneself as a Punkband in the early Nineties and tapes were and are a cheap option to reach a broader audience. Ten of them are waiting for you to dance, so join them.... and later the final of the soccer World Cup 2022. Cheers!

1.Monopol - EX-CESS
2.Tramvaj Ljudi - EX-CESS

FRESHLY RIOTS - Perhaps Demo 1982

Yeah Yeah Yeah, this record blows you off your couch and is an absolute must for demo fans, and the Vikings are always welcome in my castleI'm talking about Freshly Riots, a five piece founded in the brisk 1980 in Gedsted (North Jutland) and Perhaps is their second demo which was originally released on their Bondeskiver Records. The American label Queer Pills thought, it would be good for us to recall these valuable and rough recordings and so this fantastic record was created in an edition of 500 copies, thereof 100 in gray vinyl. A short official description: "Awesome dissonant music with elements of raw chaotic 60s garage psych. Instantly familiar and catchy but also dark and ominous and weirdly chaotic and unnerving." That's exactly right I would say. Their first EP followed in the same year and then their famous Hope album (1984), which had a different, more wavy sound but without losing their Punk roots. By mid-1984 they shortened their name to FRESHLY and a demo with two songs (both on Rot Records' Rot In Hell compilation, coming soon) came then in 1985. A year later their last big experiment Air (Quoth She) followed, on which they appear in a completely different guise and then at some point they broke up to merge into other bands. What remains, one of the best combos from Denmark and always worth a short break.

V/A - Give Us A Future (TR Compilation) 2018

Wednesday's emotions have largely subsided and things continue as 'normal'. A while ago I took a look at the Turkish Punkscene and this nice compilation on Wargasm Records, which came as a tape out, gives us an interesting overview of bands that are currently active and some that are already history. The bandwidth of the songs is consistently variable and anything but monotonous. All I can say; eighteen solid tracks in excellent quality and in my opinion this piece deserves a vinyl release. Certainly a challenge to establish yourself as Punk in this country, as well as to get performance opportunities that are definitely hard to come by, I guess. That's why it's important to listen and come in touch with this underground scene and, if you can, provide adequate support. Very good release!

EA80 - @ JUZ Perla Palast/Raunheim 25.04.1987

Ich mache es kurz: Junge (vocals/guitar), Hals Maul (guitars), Nick (bass) & Nico (drums), better known as EA80, with a fantastic live performance captured on tape. Almost thirty-five years ago were these recordings made and are still worth listening. Energetic, funny and absolutely entertaining. I didn't go to the gig at the time because I had already seen their concert at the JUZ-Bockenheim, at least I think it was in the same year, but I could be wrong. However, a visit to the Mönchengladbachers is, and will always be worthwhile. The song selection is as well, even with one non-album track. The surprises contained in a performance by the four are unique and I only know a few bands that can keep up.
Get in and enjoy the evening!

V/A - Try A Dull Knife 1983

Today a request and for a short time on the Wanted-List. Try A Dull Knife is a rare C60 tape compilation from Version Sound with bands who received little attention and are not necessarily at home in Punk, with a few exceptions. This dull knife cuts with power and energy and I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of tapes because the sound sucks mostly. This is of course also due to the ripper and the quality of the recordings, but I can really get friendly with this part. White Flag is the only combo I know and made it to further releases while some just made it only to a 7Inch or only on other tapes. Interesting selection in any case and partly also takes getting used to but an important audio document of American subculture.

1.Johnny Wonder - NO-Y-Z
2.She's A Cow - NO-Y-Z
3.Eyes - NO-Y-Z
4.Hell In A Handbasket - WHITE FLAG
5.Love Me Like A Reptile - WHITE FLAG
6.Astronomy Domine - CAHUENGA
7.Bite The Knife - TEST PATTERN
8.Shattered Badge - TEST PATTERN
9.Bleet Bleet - DEATH PATROL
10.You Are Hypnotized - DEATH PATROL
11.Hi Di Hi - DEATH PATROL
12.Soup Or Salad - DEATH PATROL
13.C.P.U. - STRANGER TECHNOLOGIES
14.Royal Blue - ROYAL BLUE
15.Greensleeves - WINDOW PAIN
16.Born To Plagarize - THE SINS
17.Twisted Cross - THE SINS
18.Suicide - SADIST FACTION

QUOD MASSACRE - Fait Accomply 1983-1986 [Tape]

I'll give you one more today and this stuff comes from an interesting band, back then from a united country, and in which I spent a very nice holiday (not in Slovenia and pictures will follow tomorrow), and this combo is called Quod Massacre, a melodic HC Punk band from Ljubljana, Slovenia. Founded by Bogdan (vocals), Robert (guitars), Rob H. (bass), Rok (drums) and Faith Accomply is an official tape repress approved by the band members of No Profit Tapes, original released in 1986 and repressed for the first time in form of 200 pro dubbed tapes with pad print. Each tape comes with original A5 14-page zine/booklet. Available in white, blue & green colors. This band has a basic thrash sound with a good bit of melody, but the heartfelt lyrics and good production sets this tape apart. The recordings are consistently decent and it was not until 1991 that they released their first album through Search & Enjoy. It followed a live CD in 2016 from Ne! Records and they are represented on various compilationsThat's it for today, I'm a little drunk and you'll see me again tomorrow.

ABOVE THE RUINS - Songs Of The Wolf 1984

All right my dear followers, now a record that can/will certainly be a subject for discussion, but I like the songs and that's why it's okay to post the music here on wdthtc. Nevertheless, I quote a little facts/background as you are used to from me and tell me your opinion if you have any criticism or anything else to say about the record: "After being asked to leave Death In June in 1984 due to his membership in the British Fuckin' National Front, Tony Wakeford formed Above The Ruins. None of the group's releases name any of its members. Wakeford never said which other persons were involved in the group. The band released one cassette in 1984 which was issued on vinyl 1986 (First Floor Records) and CD in 1996. The album's sound was similar to the dark post-punk of early Death In June. They contributed a track on the No Surrender compilation which was released via Rock-O-Rama alongside with fuckin' nazi bands but I think this happened without the band's consent because Egoldt was a damn money-hungry bastard. The music's post punk sound bears resemblance both to early Death In June and his future project Sol Invictus. The anonymity of the band members, the lyrics (dedicated to subjects like patriotism, anti-Marxism, anti-egalitarianism and anti-multiculturalism) and Wakeford's political affiliations of the time led to on-going controversy and speculation surrounding the project. Wakeford formed Sol Invictus shortly after this project was abandoned. In 2007, he stated that he had had no connection to or interest in such ideas for twenty or more years." This copy is the re-release from Infinite Fog Productions which came out in a limited edition of 500 copies. Take it or leave it, but don't talk about it until you've heard it.

STOPP - Håll Käft (Demo) 1991

Obscure two man combo from Mjölby with their only recordings, I guess and Stopp were Michael (vocals/bass) and Jonny (guitars/drums) and we enjoy five rough tracks with a voice which enjoy lots of alcoholica. Håll Käft means shut up and under this motto the other songs seem to follow, but I don't. My last visit there was about twenty-five years ago and my Swedish has been rusting ever since... well, there is not much to say about the two musicians, probably a fun project, google the band themselves and you will find little and nothing. Certainly not a musical virtuosity or highlight of excessive influence and probably distributed in small editions at concerts, I think. Overall not uninteresting and for tape collectors another welcome extra. Check it out!

V/A - Rock Anti Mili 1988

Another great compilation, originally released as tape to support any facilities, occupied houses, etc... and finally reissued, and for the first time on vinyl, by El Lokal six years ago, motto: Rock Anti Mili! Not difficult to guess what the twenty-one, partly well-known, bands want and I think it's still a hot topic today, because who needs fucking orders, uniforms & armys? Little fat ugly types who can't satisfy their woman/man and don't know what "LIFE" means, types with massive inferiority complexes, unscrupulous industrial bastards, blah blah blah... I can name a lot more assholes, but let's leave that, the inculcation of such benefits has been substantially pioneered and influenced by our subculture; beautiful noises spread out from this record and I love the aggressiveness of Spanish bands and this wonderful slab has enough of them. Comes with lyric-sheet and cool artwork. ENJOY!!

KIZZA PING - Demo Hösten 1980

Well, it almost seems as if the blog death is picking up speed again, first the crash on AJ's hard drive and now Doc Drunk, who is having an extra long drink... Eieiei. Well, I hope both find their way back and enjoy their break. Now let's talk about Kizza Ping, an interesting combo from Linköping and I'll let them say a few words about herself:

"So was the headline in an article in Östgöta Correspondenten January 1982. Even though we were pestered by some mates it did in fact have some truth. Most of us were breed by the punk but all started to become tired. The incredibly exciting punk scene of 1977-1980 had slowly ebbed away. The bands that took over after The Clash and Ebba Grön were The Exploited and Anti-Cimex and were not as fun. Instead bands like Simple Minds, U2 and Reeperbahn came and it was about here Kizza Ping started.

The first chords appeared 1980. Anders, Johan, Lars and me had performed in punk bands as RAS, ÅOBF, Spy and Zpamhead. During the summer I had made some appearances with the joke band Rabarbarna. Helene and Annette sang "Young & pimply", the only song we had. When it was time to establish a real band during the autumn, the girls were natural members. Helene and Annette, our own Annifrid & Agnetha, were of course a big asset. They used their voices in several different ways, sometimes they devoted their time to the undervalued singing exercise in canon. Johan's and Anders' tunes differed us to other bands in the town as well as Johan's especial bass playing. The fact, that we were on stage six times also contributed, punk was simply too far away.

To arrange stage sessions was no problem at the time in Linkoeping. Just call the youth recreation centers (yes, it existed at that time) and decide a date. The music association Rock d’Amour did of course also exist and people always came. In some way we managed to take the band one step further. We got performance stage sessions in neighbour-towns, wrote contract with local Dåvhjort Records and the single ”Männen”/”Lär I Tid” (Men/Learn In Time) (of course recorded at Bosse Sound) did get a good review in the customs of that time Music Bible "Schlager". We were interviewed by Radio Östergötland, were several weeks on the local chart and did small out on tours to Gävle, Västerås & Göteborg.

Maybe we could come even further. In March 1982, just a few months after the single, we made our last play. Today, almost twenty years later, I have no idea why we did end. I must call some of the others and ask if they remember. To listen to these old songs today feels strange. Sure it sounds dated but at the same time I like what I hear. Despite we were just between eighteen and twenty we managed to do something that didn't sound like all others. And the punk most of us did return to." Peter Kagerland/April 2001 (Source: b-sound)

ABZESS - Immer Bereit [Demo] 1984

Last but not least, a little fast-paced demo of Abzess, a three piece that consisted of Matt (vocals/guitars), Ulf (bass), Olli (drums) and apart from this tape they didn't publish much, here and there on compilation tapes to find and that's it, further infos or signs of life about the three can't be found in the global network as well, but what posterity will find on a Saturday in a decent cassette collection are eleven rumbling fast tracks in a good recording quality and one wonders why no EP was made, well.. shouldn't be. For this, the SGE reaped three points in Augsburg. Now I'm at the end for today, tomorrow will continue. Have a chill evening and don't stop listening to fantastic music.

BUGS - Pärleporten [Tape] 1979

Today I make you happy, and it took a long time, with rare material from the wanted list. The musical enjoyment starts with the Bugs - (Johan (vocals), Bobo (guitars), Jomma (bass), Matte (drums) - from Gävle, which released two fantastic different EPs forty years ago. I think Pärleporten was recorded before the 7Inches but I'm not sure but what I know is that all four songs are ok and it would be damn cool if more recordings were dormant in some archives and discoveredPuuhhh, I have a poor concentration, yesterday lime brandy + beer, brutal mix but I think, I can post one more this afternoon..... stay tuned!

CRIMINAL CLASS - Demo 1984 EP

Sunday is off to a good start and I am already looking forward to the fresh strawberries I just got from the farmer, but before I nibble, a nice rare EP that was only pressed 200 times. Unofficial re-release of the band's demo tape from 1984 which was made at Sight & Sound Upper York St. Earlsdon, Coventry. Criminal Class was formed in Coventry, England in 1979, one of the first Oi!/Skinhead bands to emerge. The band made their debut on the compilation Strength Thru Oi! in 1981 by Decca Records, which turned out to be a catastrophe for all the bands that appeared on the compilation due to violence that occured in Southall that same year. The following year the band released their only single, Fighting The System in 1982 by Tempest Records. Even though the band had slow tempo songs, their lyrics were very powerful. Had to do with corruption in England, the Falklands War, police brutality, black and white unity, and more. The band split up in the mid '80s and later reformed in 2000 after the release of the CD Blood On The Streets: the Criminal Class Oi! Collection by Captain Oi!, recollecting tracks from the EP, compis, demos & tracks that were never released. (info taken from XXX). And now vitamins!

FRITES MODERN - 6Met 10'' 2018

Great release by Frites Modern from Amsterdam who were active between 1982 to 1985. Guitarist and singer Arjan Boonacker formed the band after his departure from Tröckener Kecks. Contrary to the prevailing oi and later hardcore trend of the time, the band made melodic punk and early pop punk. The band was originally called Duphar, named after the chemical factory that had dumped thousands of poison barrels in the Volgermeerpolder. On the way to a performance in Belgium, the band saw a burnt chip shop standing by the side of the road, the nameplate of which still proudly announced that it was a "Friterie Moderne". And that gave them the idea for the definitive band name. 6 Met10 was released on cassette in 1983, it became a great success and ended up being the best-selling Dutch indie cassette ever. The tape contains, amongst other tracks, the ultimate punk version of Sesamstraat and Bionic Adventure, which ended up on compilation albums (all re-upped) several times over the years. "Your speakers are running wild: arrow-fast riffs, a screeching solo and vocals to kiss. Frites Modern works according to the old craftsmanship of the songsmith, with exciting verses and beautiful choruses. An ode to The Undertones." --OOR Magazine #10, 21.May 1983 - Now self-released in my favorite format as 10'' and now listen to six dutch nuggets.

ARMATRAK - Demo 1985

Kick off weekend and say hello to this four piece demo by Armatrak from Auckland, a band which was founded in the early 80s by Steve (vocals), Trevor (guitar), Peter (bass), Geoff (drums) and had their active time in the mid-1980s and were one of NZ's first forays into the American Hardcore/Emo sound of the mid 80's. Three cool singles were created in these years, in 2008 the band released a CD compilation A Wall That Has Art Has Life with recordings from 1984-1985 at Last Laugh Studios. Three years later one more self-released 10'' as a collector's item (60 copies) for die-hard fans. On numerous compilations as well, two of that Life Is A Joke Vol.2Death Pays All Debts within reach. Excellent stuff in any way and now.... woman, sun & beer!

LES RATS - En Concert 1990

Besides some re-ups now a little live tape by Intox Production from Les Rats (drowned in the high school routine student life of a remote suburb where the future which they are promised does not like them, it is not by chance if Joss, Patrice, Jean-Michel & Laurent meet since they share the same juvenile fantasy: to become a rock band one day. Like those who bathed their adolescence with wild riffs and media scandals to make their parents pale. It doesn't matter if their material aiding the sounds that leave their instruments can make believe that they become stars because they have rabies in their stomach.... They will be called RATS!) which was recorded in Lyon on 18.01.1989 and we listen to ten dirty catchy smasher in a solid sound quality and I don't wanna write more because all info is available via the Tequila post and I recommend you a click there. I'm tired from the first working day after the famous Easter days.
