V/A - Rebelie Punk'N'Oi! 1990

Let's go a bit exotic with the first release by the Monitor label and it's a decent mix of Punk and Oi! bands and the label selected the best "pieces" at that time from the Czech region to begin with. Well, for my taste it takes a little getting used to, because the quality is different than what I am used to, and sometimes a bit tiring. There are some reviews you can read for yourself and there are also cool songs on this Compilation and it certainly has a firm place in the history of Czechoslovak subculture, but somehow I miss the WOW! effect and after the slab's over, it's good too. Anyway, put on the music and absolutely suitable for a start into the new week.

V/A - Oi! Rare & Exotica Vol.2 1999

Let's continue with the second unofficial Volume of massive rare Oi! goodies and again released via Teenage Rebel Records and the selection is excellently cast with twenty-three tracks, which stretched out the middle finger towards to the boring establishment. This time with an info sheet and a few words from it: "Again a lot of more or less unknown bands from all over the world are featured with recordings from 1981-1998. Everybody should know the 80's Oi! bands from England, so there's no need to present them here again like on many other Oi! Compis. So discover something new, have fun and always remember: The world is big, manigfold and real Oi! is anti-rascist (which doesn't mean it's leftwing)." Together with Volume 1 this record offers a lot of exclusive material, good songs and every band doesn't sound dull or wooden, what means in the end: no stupid music goulash. Get both!

TŘI SESTRY - Na Kovárně To Je Nářez 1990

An interesting record is the debut of Tři Sestry (Three Sisters), a combo from Prague and the origins of the band are uncertain, as most members were still in high school when the ensemble began to coalesce. Some of their later material has fallen into a more general rock genre, and they have also dabbled in Hardcore/Punk. They are one of the most popular bands in this country and have played @ the Masters Of Rock Festival in 2005 & 2011. In 1985, a few friends who had previously played in the band Spálená Tlumivka created their own group and named it Tři Sestry. The name was invented by Jiří "Hadr" Brábník, the band's original drummer. The band's initial lineup consisted of Jiří Brábník, Tomáš "Sup" Karásek (harmonica), Petr "Dachau" Jírovec (guitar), and Tomáš Doležal (bass). Not long after, three vocalists were added to the group: František Moravec, Simona "Síma" Bártová, and Petr "Bombur" Kratochvíl. Tři Sestry played their first official concert in the spring of 1986 @ Klub 001 in Strahov, a district of Prague. In the summer of 1986, vocalist Fanánek was seriously injured by a passing train, severing one of his legs (he now wears a prosthesis), and the band's performances were interrupted. In 1987, vocalists Síma & Bombur left the band and Luděk "Nikotýn" Pallat joined on guitar. They performed with two guitarists for a while but eventually Jírovec left. In January 1988, they recorded an album, which was released only in 1995, under the title Rarity. At the end of the 1980s, there were various personnel changes in the group, including several stints by guitarist František Sahula (a former member of Spálená Tlumivka, who left Tři Sestry in 2004 and was found murdered in 2008), who wrote some of the band's biggest hits". - Enough blah blah, this album has eighteen varied songs that are sometimes fast and melodic and consistently provide pleasant vibes.

ŠVINDL - Falešný Zprávy EP 2018

Another exotic discovery is the following combo: Švindl. A young combo from Litomerice, Czech Republic and the boys play refreshing mid-tempo punk and this is their second EP with five cocktails which are available for free on their bandcamp site. The reason I'm posting them here? Well, good new Punkrock is rare these days and this young band deserves attention in my opinion. On the one hand they do their job excellently, on the other hand, who ever looks at the Czech Republic? I honestly don't. Their musical outpourings are only available digitally, no vinyl. Apparently it's difficult to find a label, which may be due to the Czech lyrics, but that's exactly what I find very charming, I don't understand anything, but I concentrate more on their sound and that kicks ass, really recommendedCheck them out, it's worth!

V/A - 1984 The Third 2LP 1987

One of my favorite compilations is the double album by the important French label New Wave Records, who released a small series called 1984 in the Eighties with tons of international bands and every release is a direct hit in my opinion. Also Freunde, Volume 3 was pressed 1500 times and there are thirty-eight bands/songs to discover, plus a detailed booklet with lots of infos and lyrics and and and... I love such loving and detailed slabs because they not only make an impact acoustically, but also visually and I'm certainly not alone there, and on days off like these, the pleasure is doubly pleasant. The only downside is that I have to write so much and don't like to write much. I've already thought about not writing anything anymore, but I don't like that either. What a conflict hahaha... Now I'll open a beer and the subtle reference to Volume 4 (the last part) and the first two will follow... someday!

V/A - Up + Down 1994

It goes forward now with this sunny compilation by Incognito Records and its a small excerpt of their proud 333 x Up & Down series which features circa 45 EP's and a few of them are waiting somewhere in this theatreI will quote the exquisite introduction by Barny, the label boss, so you know what medicine you need: "Two years ago we started putting out 7''s, which are limited to 333 handnumbered copies each. No, we're not lazy, but we were sick of the music-business and we wanted to release just good music by cool bands. We didn't look for famous names and didn't give a fuck about "market-chances" or bollocks like that. If we liked a band we put out a record by it. That was it! Of course, we couldn't expect to sell thousands of records by These not too famous upstarts, so we had to limit them. We thought 333 would be a not too bad number.... When the series started we've been surprised about the big publicity in mags and zines. People from all parts of the world wrote letters to us and in due of this big request we're re-releasing the best songs of the first bunch of 7''s now. An important note for CD-haters: this 74 minutes flood has one third more playtime than a LP, but it costs less than one third more than a vinyl-longplayer. Technical developments are not always bad, even not the "anti-punk" CD, if you use it the right way! Anyway: If you still hate silverfishs, go buy the original 7Inches of the 333 x Up & Down series. We're trying hard to feature bands from around the globe and so the '77 style survives us all." Finally, I would like to mention the excellent black and white artwork with lots of infos, pictures and little bedtime stories so that even deafs have their fun.
